Every once in a while a truly feel good project comes along. Fantastic Fred is a perfect example of this. Commissioned by the Drummer Creative Agency, the brief was to create a superhero character and his side kick to help deliver a mental health awareness live show to key stage one and two school children in the U.K.

The superhero FANTASTIC FRED is a lively character with an enquiring mind and his side kick is a science professor. As the message would be delivered in the form of a mobile theatre that visits primary schools in the UK part of the brief was to design and illustrate the interior of the vehicle to look like the professor’s laboratory. Bearing in mind the age range of the audience, a cartoon style was decided upon that would (with the inclusion of illustrated lab assistant mice) entertain and relax the children upon entering the interior space. This was great fun to draw and the end result both inside and outside of the van create a truly magical mobile theatre experience for children all over the UK.
